Last year during the 0ctober 2015 expedition here in El Cenote, Tommaso Santagata of La Venta had been to only surveyor in the team and was in cahrge of operating the 3D laser sacnner. This year, he invited Farouk Kadded from Leica (France) to come along and participate with the 3D laser scanning of the upper half of the cave. Farouk brought with him from Paris the latest state of the art Leica 3D laser scanner and GPS equipment. Tommaso was in heaven and loved every minute of being with Farouk. They worked very well together and began the 3D laser scan from outside on the surface around the giant depression.
Pictured here Farouk explains to Tommaso the importance of making an extremely accurate GPS fix of the entrance to the cave. In this case, they had successfully made a GPS fix to within 3mm.
