At the end of the guided tour of Eisriesenwelt, south of Salzburg, visitors arrive at a frozen lake, inside a chamber known as the Eispalast, or “ice palace.” Long serving cave guide Siegi Kaml (pictured) says “now (April/May) is the best time to see this cave. When it starts raining, the temperature rises, the icicle on the side, it will vanish. It will just melt away”.
