One of the most iconic and striking parts of Lechuguilla cave is called Pearlsian Gulf. It is named after the beautiful and pristine cave pearls that litter the floor around a beautiful emerald green pool of water. Pictured here and showing the hollow nature of several of the stalagmites around Pearlsian Gulf we illuminate the inside of each stalagmite from the outside giving off a warm orange glow. What is most unusual about this stalagmite is the hole in the middle. This is very rare and is probably formed when a drop of a more acidic water falls from the ceiling and erodes the inside of the stalagmite.
