Some caves we visited in the Ngounié Province of Gabon were hard to spot through the dense rainforest vegetation, particularly those with small ‘body-sized’ entrances. Although local guides were needed to locate the cave, 45 minutes into the bush, the entrance portal of Grotte de Camp Malheur was obvious. Through the large ‘railway-tunnel’ sized passage, the distance in the darkness is difficult to gauge. Here we see members of our team illuminating the route.
